Preschool Math with Water Beads -Ocean Theme

I've been seeing water beads in Hobby Lobby and have been wanting to find an activity to do with the babies for quite some time. The ocean theme was a perfect time!

I filled the bin with the beads (after soaking them overnight) and then hid 10 colorful fish underneath the beads.

I put a shark on top and placed laminated cards with the numbers 1 through 10 in the bin.

Here's how the water beads looked up close. They feel so cool. I had them on the kitchen counter overnight and Sister and I probably stuck our hand in the bowl 20 times. Even Boss seemed interested in them.

We put the cards on the ground in order and then as they pulled the fish out we placed one on each card.

They had a good time finding the fish and just touching the beads!!! Don't ask me why Princess was wearing long sleeves and pants in 90 degree weather. She is into picking out her own outfits lately and WOW...some of her choices are BRAVE!!! Recently she wore a flower print skirt, a striped shirt, and winter boots...with a sun hat.

We weren't supposed to take out the shark until we found all 10 fish!!! Princess really is not into any type of math AT ALL, so this was my attempt at getting her interested. Anyway, we almost made it to 10.

I think these beads were $3.00 per pack and I used two packs to fill the bin. I am sure Amazon has way better deals:

I had to send Son in the house because he started eating the beads. They are non-toxic, but still...ewww. So Princess did what she LOVES to do. She got out her measuring cup and scooped the beads for quite some time. Later in the evening we went outside to clean up the activity and decided to put our feet in the bin. It was a lot of fun. Its like an ooey gooey foot massage:
