Pirate Week Day One

We decided to extend our ocean theme unit from last week and study pirates this weesome t was nice because I didn't have to make a whole new bulletin board, I just added to the ocean scene.

Actually, I didn't even make my own pirate for the board, I printed him out. I'm ashamed, but last night I was up until 1 am preparing this week's activities and I wasn't about to spend another hour on a custom made pirate!

Here he is (bad photo, sorry...it was late):

Next to him is the bible verse "Where your treasure is,  your heart will be also".  Somehow, pirates and bible verses can go together...just ask The Veggie Tales.

Before we went to bed last night we had a pre-pirate-week snack of treasure chest brownies:

We started pirate week off right by going on a pirate themed field trip and toured the El Galeon. Tommorrow will be its last day in St Augustine, so we had good timing:

Princess got to hold a cannon ball:

My little buccaneer:

Firing at the enemies:

I have so much planned for this unit that I am not sure how we are going to get it all done before going on vacation  next week. If we don't complete it all, we will just continue the unit when we return.

Here are Princess's shelves for this week.

Top shelf: Jewel Pouring, Open/ Close Activity

Middle shelf: Keys and locks, Treasure Sort

Bottom shelf: Balance Ship and Pushing Pearls into a bottle

We will also be doing some math and literacy and gross motor work...all outdoors!
